Take The Training Wheels Off Your Networking

By: Maxine Todd, Marilyn Davies College of Business MBA Career Counselor II

I remind any student coming into my office seeking job strategy advise, that studies show 60 – 80% of all job offers are the direct result of networking.

With the Spring business career fairs over, this is an incredible opportunity for students and alumni to continue to network with recruiters and hiring managers seeking to hire the very best talent. I also tell my students, just like anything else, the more you network, the better you get at it. None of us are really that good at networking at first, but we do get better after practicing, a lot.

Think of networking as sort of like riding a bike for the first time, training wheels first, and then off to the Tour de France!  Once you discover a few best practices, you will be networking with ease.

Here’s a terrific article about networking that has come across my desk recently I’d like to share from Forbes magazine.
